Long Haired Dave's Sucker Punch
| Hook: | #8 3XL Curved Nymph |
| Weight: | 15 wraps .025 lead |
| Tail, Wing: | Tentacles (Med. Copper-Orvis) |
| Abdomen: | Dubbing* |
| Thorax: | Peacock dubbing or herl |
| Soft Wing: | Hot Orange Pheasant Rump |
*Dubbing: I've gone back and forth a bit on dubbing, mostly because the color I
want is not commercially available. What I'm using now (pictured) is about a
50/50 mix of Wapsi Natural Fur: 175-Fox Squirrel Belly and Wapsi Super
Bright: 051-Rusty Brown.
Tying Instructions
Put 15 wraps of lead on hook. Bind down a bit with thread. Take one strand of tentacles,
fold in half and cut. Fold in half again, but this time over the thread. Use thread to
guide tentacles in place and tie down a little into the bend. You'll end up with 4 strands
for the tail.

Ready to start dubbing.
Build up a relatively tapered body. The material should be very buggy. Don't try to make
it smooth... let it all hang out.
About two hook eye lengths or so before you run out of room, attach tentacles as before, this
time using 2 strands to start, after doubled & cut and doubled on the thread you get 8 in the wing.

Dub peacock color or use peacock herl if desired. Select a pheasant rump feather. Use the
long tips of the feather for the fly, you won't wrap this feather around the hook but rather just
pinch the fibers together and tie the whole thing on.
Cut the rest of the pheasant off and tie off. At this point I trim the rubber tails so that they
are about the length of the rubber wing or pheasant feather.
